- Keep it clear and concise.
- Do not be afraid to tailor it to the particular role. Once you know what the employer is looking for you can submit more detail on your relevant experience at the expense of the irrelevant.
- Profiles and skills summaries can be a good approach. Recruiters do not always have time to hunt for relevant detail.
- Spelling, grammar and layout show good attention to detail. Please do not rely on spell check it is not fool proof.
- Highlight your strengths. Your greatest achievements should be prominent.
- Write with passion and enthusiasm, omitting any negativity.
- The 3 page rule does not apply to everyone. Just do not under or over sell yourself.
- Think of the whole document from a reader’s point of view. Get someone else to read it over and seriously consider any points they raise.
- Always set your job roles out in chronological order, with your most recent role first.
- Consultants should consider how they lay out assignments as at first glance it could be wrongly viewed as job hopping.
